Welcome
The Western Cape Property Development Forum
was established to interact with the City to address existing processes,
practices and policies to ensure that systems are streamlined and
effectively integrated to deal with issues that might impede development
in Cape Town. The Forum was formally established in November 2008
with its first General Meeting and election of a Management Committee,
although it has been operational since June 2007 with an interim
steering committee.
The Property Development Forum is dedicated to
facilitating and promoting property development though partnership-based
management solutions in order to ensure that existing processes,
practices and policies are streamlined and effectively integrated
to deal with issues that might hamper development.
The purpose of the Forum is, inter alia, to be:
• A body that represents development that is recognized by authorities and which will ultimately become a statutory recognised body.
• A body that will represent all developers with a management structure that is to be demographically representative.
• A body that can interpret and facilitate understanding between the authorities and the developers.
• A body that can create a climate of co-operation between authorities and business forums.
• A body that can look out for the interests of developers and other professionals in the industry.
• A body that can be consulted and that can comment on changes on land-use policy.
• It should not duplicate existing bodies within the industry, thus causing further fragmentation of the industry.
Deliverables that are foreseen are:
• A code of conduct for the property industry.
• Watchdog function and supporting authorities to prevent corruption.
• Create a legal advisory structure within the City, to develop a database of legal opinions.
• Collating statistics, research and development.
• Educating public, politicians and developers.
• Innovations –building green is an example.
• Lobbying important issues.
